As a Global Director of Hardware Validation you will lead global team of 300+ validation engineers and technicians in automotive electronics for Aptiv’s Active Safety and User Experience division.

You will manage several world-class global testing labs located in US, Mexico, Germany, Poland, and China which complete electromagnetic compliance (EMC) and reliability testing (thermal, vibration, humidity cycles). Validation engineers develop and implement advanced test methods for Design Validation and Process Validation testing of automotive electronics used in vehicle ADAS systems, infotainment and user experience products, vehicle domain controllers, and interior driver/cabin sensing.

Aptiv’s advanced systems are used in vehicles for several global OEMs including BMW, Daimler, VW, Ford, FCA, Geely, GreatWall, Hyundai, Renault/Nissan, etc.

Your role:

• Manage multiple global validation engineering departments located in Poland, Germany, China, USA, and Mexico.
• Lead Aptiv’s hardware validation organization that is responsible for developing the test methods, design test configuration, and ensuring validation (DV and PV) is completed per customer schedule.
• Manage validation teams assigned to customer projects to complete validation per each customer’s requirements and specifications.
• Ensure the quality of Aptiv’s electronics via validation of functions to customer’s specs, driving the organization to address all test failures in timely manner and implementing prevent recurrence actions for future testing success.
• Lead validation departments to manage the lab facilities, ensuring Aptiv has world-class equipment, maintained for highest efficiency and quality.
• Engage in global Hardware Validation field, extracting strategic test methods from the validation community for usage at Aptiv
• Cooperate with ME Global Lead, EE Global Lead, and HW Platform Lead to build the community which drives & implements key initiatives, changes and new solutions
• Propose, lead & implement strategic initiatives in regards of the structure, optimization, deliveries, balancing work load between teams & locations
• Provide executive-level interface to internal and external customers to avoid concern escalation
• Maintain a management operating system to review KPIs that impact our Wildly Important Goals
• Enable teams to adopt new HW processes for ASPICE and Agile methods
• Coach department managers and key technical talent on design decisions that impact Aptiv technology and cost
• Manage resource and capital budget for validation engineering teams and maintenance of test labs
• Develop Validation Department Managers for succession, ensuring we have a pipeline of qualified talent pool for the next generation of executive leadership
• Identify strategic skills required for Aptiv’s future technology roadmap. Ensure that skills gaps are immediately addressed through appropriate recruitment, redeployment &/or talent development actions
• Lead talent and skills development of electrical engineering groups
  • Encourage hiring best-in-class, motivated, engaged leaders that display behavioral traits aligned with Aptiv values and leadership competencies
  • Ensuring the execution of high introduction to the team, that will ensure that onboarding process is structured, consistent, and at the same time tailored to the skillset and experience of individual new joiners
  • Ensuring appropriate development opportunities to all members of the team by tailoring appropriate mix of timely stretch-assignments, arranging mentorship within & outside immediate organization, as well as encouraging and sponsoring individually matched training & education opportunities.
  • Using the network as well as official processes to effectively develop talent across Engineering Organization
  • Preparing and being one of the leaders for periodic Talent Review Sessions which are aimed at aligning the development opportunities on broader Product Line level, and through that securing succession to key roles within Engineering
• Prepare staffing planning, which would be based on the knowledge of business requirements, newly won contracts, product roadmap, as well as deep understanding of current staffing levels, skillsets, and existing retention risks
• Have a deep understanding of team’s work (with particular focus on direct team members) by staying close to the people and their activities, as well as through development of visual performance & quality metrics

Your background:

• Bachelor, Master or PhD degree in Engineering
• Fifteen years of electronics validation leadership experience in an international company, preferably in the automotive industry
• Over five years of leadership experience with global team of 200+ engineers
• Experience in leading large engineering teams to meet global financial targets for capital investment, globally-aligned resources, and engineering expenses
• Strong focus on interpersonal skills – willingness to develop
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to solve problems - creativity
• Fluency in English
• Exhibiting advanced professional interest in people management, with particular focus on employee recruitment, coaching & development
• Ability to give developmental feedback
• Skillful in applying coaching techniques in business environment
• Ability to work in complex, matrix organizations for the benefit of the team
• Knowledge of, and ability to use visualizations & metrics dashboards to convey key messages
• Courage to conduct critical conversations
