The purpose of the Research Engineer in Technology Development at Cochlear BAS role is to develop new bone conduction concepts, features and applications with regards to improving hearing and system performance. This includes testing and assessment on system and component level such as electronic and mechanical design, signal processing, communication and amplification etc. The person will work closely with internal (AI, D&D, CA etc.) and external partners to provide the necessary understanding of the technical aspects and hearing performance of our products and ensure that new innovations are connected to the product plan and technology plan.

Key accountabilities includes:

  • Create new develop existing bone conduction technologies, concepts and feature which leads to improved hearing performance by designing, building, testing and documenting;
  • Define critical questions for concepts and create plan to have those answered;
  • Providing guidance and input to development team based on experimental data;
  • Effectively visualise and communicate results of testing by documentation and presentations;
  • Development and sustaining of the measurement systems needed to evaluate device and system performance;
  • Develop advanced test configurations and procedures to measure device and system performance, e.g. mechanical impedance, laser doppler measurements etc.;
  • Support other internal functions with development of suitable test methods and systems for use in product development, manufacturing or clinical environments;
  • System performance development and evaluation of bone conduction specific signal processing aspects such as signal path, electronics, firmware, DSP and acoustics;
  • Give input to design with regards to the electrical and mechanical system, e.g. microphone, battery and power management.

You bring:

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Acoustics or similar;
  • Experience with testing, electrical measurements and signal processing;
  • Experience in working with innovation and product development;
  • Self-motivated, curious and driven;
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken.

Ideal:

  • Master’s degree in relevant field;
  • Broad technical skills and experience;
  • MATLAB skills and experience;
  • Experience and history of working with hearing, sound, bone conduction or communication technology.
