We are looking for a Specialist in Material Mechanics and Digital Materials to join Airbus in Filton, Bristol. You will join the Corrosion Protection Principles and Sealants team and report to the head of the department.
In this role you would be supporting all aircraft programs through research, design, production and in-service by translating inputs from materials scientists and preparing/integrating data into digital tools to enable analysis of performance in various conditions.
For this position, you will interface with various internal and external partners (sub-contractors, suppliers, designers etc.) and ensure the provision of Materials, Processes and Test (MPaT) expertise to a range of stakeholders including Design, Programme, Manufacturing Engineering, Production/Production Quality, Procurement/Procurement Quality and In-Service Support.
The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.
Task & accountabilities:
- Developing and deploying Materials, Processes and Test Technologies for mature design and build;
- Providing corrosion protection and surface protection digital concepts and solutions to enable design, build and operation of aircraft. For example, to show the mechanical interaction between surface treatments and substrate in a virtual form;
- Ensuring reactive support for improvement projects (performance improvement/cost and time reduction);
- Adapting existing corrosion protection and sealing principles to a chromate free environment.
This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.
Skills & Experience:
- Educated to bachelor degree level (or equivalent) in Engineering or a related discipline;
- Proven experience using FEM tools such as Abaqus FEA, Altair®, HyperMesh®;
- Relevant background in aerospace materials, mechanical engineering and aerospace manufacturing processes would be ideal;
- Knowledge and experience of aerospace modelling and simulation, lightning strike protection;
- Knowledge of aerospace materials (metallic and composite), material coatings and additive layer manufacturing would be of benefit;
- Ability to translate customer requirements into operational deliverables and prioritise;
- Good communication and negotiation skills.
