THE MISSION

As part of the structures team, you will be responsible for thermal analysis of the global launch vehicle. Covering the entire analysis pipeline from sources and model refinements to conducting calculations and reporting, your input and knowledge will be highly appreciated and directly drive flight hardware design iterations.

More specifically, you will:

  • Set up and own analytical and numerical thermal model of the launcher, including: convection models for closed volumes and propellants, radiation models for complex geometries, conductive models of all vehicle structures, all of the above based on global structural FE models;
  • Assess and gather thermal boundary conditions in collaboration with the colleagues working on propulsion, aerodynamics, avionics and the fluid system;
  • Investigate and downselect critical scenarios during ground and flight operations;
  • Dimension thermal control systems (e.g. MLI, heaters, ...) and ventilation systems;
  • Determine operating environments for components on the vehicle as well as the payload.

WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU HAVE

Musts:

  • M.Sc. in the field of Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanics or comparable;
  • Sound knowledge in thermal analysis for all means of transport;
  • Demonstrated experience performing numerical thermal analyses;
  • Experience with Multiphysics simulation and knowledge of suitable coupling approaches;
  • Ability to efficiently make solid assumptions to determine relevant scenarios and effects;
  • Fluent in English;
  • Passionate about new space, curious and eager to learn;
  • Driven to deliver and constantly push the boundaries;
  • Take ownership and accountability for your own actions and mistakes;
  • Humble and willing to go our of your way to help others;
  • Can-do attitude and outstanding communication skills.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Aerospace experience, preferably with launch vehicle development;
  • Specific experience with the HyperWorks software suite;
  • Knowledge of experimental validation of thermal models.
