Job Description

A Gear Deburr Operator at Boeing Sheffield will be responsible for using a range of equipment to finish and deburr a number of flight critical actuation components. The successful candidate will manufacture parts using various products and standardized processes. Daily responsibilities could include:

  • Perform hand finishing operations of complex machined parts, with similar features and geometries;
  • Select, load, secure, mount and change proper abrasive wheels, compounds, fixtures, etc. for deburr and chamfering operations;
  • Interpret drawings, specifications and work instructions necessary to accomplish work assignments;
  • Reporting progress throughout the day, and participating in daily tier meetings;
  • Using initiative to resolve problems using company procedures;
  • Using lean manufacturing principles and tools to optimize production;
  • Being flexible in working pattern to meet business needs.

Attention to detail and adherence to these process are key skills. Working in an environment of continuous improvement, a willingness to learn new skills and flexibility are important qualities.

The role requires strong communication skills, time management and working well with others while maintaining emotional resilience. They must also be proactive in maintaining a safe, incident and injury free environment.

In addition it will be expected that the successful candidates lead/coach our team of apprentice machinists, helping them to further develop their knowledge and skills.

There is currently no requirement to work a shift pattern. However in the future this position will be required to from part of a shift roster. This position would then attract a shift premium.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess at least a Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience, in a relevant subject area. In addition, they should have at least 3 years’ experience working in aerospace (or other high value) manufacturing, preferably with experience machining small gear components and/or housings. Experience deburring steel and aluminum components would be relevant.

The successful candidate will also possess the following:

  • Experience using precision workshop inspection equipment;
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, with practical understanding of geometric tolerances;
  • Good computer literacy;
  • The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate experience exhibiting the following behavioral attributes:

    • Flexibility/Adaptability/Change – Appropriate behavioral responses, work adjustments and coping mechanisms are expected for individuals and teams especially during the ‘stand up phase’ of Boeing Sheffield before the site is delivering operationally;
    • Development/Engagement – Fully involved in one’s work to foster organizational interests as well as promoting self-development and growth;
    • Proactivity – Must be proactive in maintaining a safe, incident and injury free work environment and champion quality improvement activities.
