Job description

For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking System and Verification Engineers to support the METEOSAT Third Generation (MTG) System.

The mission of the METEOSAT Third Generation (MTG) System is to provide continuous high spatial, spectral and temporal resolution observations and geophysical parameters of the Earth/Atmosphere System derived from direct measurements of its emitted and reflected radiation using satellite based sensors from the geostationary orbit. To fulfil this mission it is required to deploy a sustained capability to acquire, process and distribute to downstream application users and second tier processing centres environmental data on a broad spectral range (from UV to LWIR), covering extensive areas (global and regional), and within a variety of different time scales to continue and enhance the services offered by the Second Generation of the METEOSAT System (MSG).

Responsibilities

The System Engineering and Requirement verification activities are as follows:

System Engineering support:

  • Commissioning preparation and support to execution:
    • MTG-S1 commissioning Timeline preparation;
    • Commissioning documentation preparation/update (System Commissioning Plan, In Orbit Implementation plan, Commissioning Support Plan, Commissioning Timeline);
    • MTG-S1 System Operational Validation (OSV) campaign preparation and support to execution;
    • MTG-S1 Commissioning preparation and support to execution.
  • System Engineering Coordination:
    • Coordination between System, GS and other teams for System Engineering analysis and resolution of issues and for maintenance of the system baseline, including contributing to related reviews and meetings, production of recommendations to MTG level boards, etc.;
    • Support to the MTG Monitoring & Control Chain Integration Verification and Validation.
  • Management and coordination of the off-line tools and functions:
    • Management and coordination of the off-line tools and functions (OFTs) required to perform on-board instrument configuration changes and to assess or improve the performance of the MTG system (assessment of product quality, monitoring of performance, production setting of spacecraft, instrument or data processing);
    • Support the Technical officer with follow-up of the procurement (for internal and external procurements), installation and use of the system test tools used for operational validation and commissioning;
    • Report on the Off-line Tool status to the Technical officer;
    • Support to Anomaly Review Board (ARB).
  • MTG Monitoring & Control Chain Integration Verification and Validation.

Requirement Verification support activities:

  • Planning and execution of the Verification Control tasks;
  • Contribute to the refinement of the pre-launch system verification strategy at the level of individual requirements with the elaboration of the Initial Verification Control Document (VCD) at System and Ground Segment levels, ensuring the consistency of the verification approach with lower levels using the traceability of requirements;
  • Perform the progressive establishment of the MTG verification status for each requirement, maintaining the verification status of the System and Ground Segment levels ensuring the coherence with the status of the lower levels;
  • Review the VCDs produced at lower levels and report on inconsistencies then ingest them in DOORS and in the upper level VCDs;
  • Generate the Verification Control Document (VCD) and associated verification reports;
  • Contribute to the definition of the test scenarios and tests specifications regarding the list of requirements to be verified by test in-line with VCD;
  • Prepare inputs to Verification Control Boards (VCB) and other ad-hoc meetings as requested;
  • Coordinate and run the A/I/RoD tasks;
  • Participate to the TRR and TRB, checking the traceability matrices and reviewing the verification status;
  • Prepare the “Final VCDs” ensuring periodic publishing;
  • Prepare reports on the whole Verification Control Status;
  • Generate periodic reports with quantitative metrics and indicators on the status of verification of the whole system;
  • Monitoring and reporting on the Verification Control tasks;
  • Set up and maintain all tools necessary in support to the verification control activity (including DOORS) in coordination with the corporate DOORS Maintenance & Administration team;
  • Set-up and maintain DOORS for the generation of the initial and final VCD and its daily administration, with the development of DXL scripts and views required for the execution of the verification control in DOORS;
  • Corrective and evolutionary maintenance of the tools to support the Verification Control tasks.

In performing the above service to MTG System Engineering and Verification, the following related undertakings will be required:

  • Short-term scheduling of key support tasks, in line with the overall System schedules;
  • Production of technical notes and memos, as required by Eumetsat Technical Officer (TO);
  • Coordinating on regular basis (meeting, reminding…) with OFT users and experts to follow-up their procurement/development, and support their delivery;
  • Organising and contributing to Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), in which the readiness of all required elements to perform a specific set of tests will be checked, any constraint dealt with and the final arrangements for the execution of the tests taken;
  • Supporting the tests, undertaking any required analysis of the results and recording the outcome in relevant test reports, and anomaly reports if necessary;
  • Organising and contributing to Test Review Board (TRB) meetings to present the test results, the anomalies identified, and the proposed verification status of the requirements tested;
  • Supporting Anomaly Review Board (ARB) meetings;
  • Liaising with procurement teams and development contractors on technical issues related to the utilisation of the system, the communication of anomalies, the follow-up of their resolution and installation of patches or new releases.

Qualifications & Competencies

Mandatory skills:

  • Fluency in English;
  • Management and coordination of the off-line tools and functions (OFTs);
  • Familiarity with procurement, installation and use of the system test tools used for operational validation and commissioning;
  • Familiarity with System Operational Validation preparation and support to execution;
  • Familiarity with Commissioning preparation and support to execution;
  • Coordination between System, GS and other teams for analysis and resolution of issues and for maintenance of the system baseline, including contributing to related reviews and meetings, production of recommendations to MTG level boards;
  • Organization and conduct of TRR (Test Readiness Reviews)/TRB (Test Review Board);
  • Support to Anomaly Review Board (ARB);
  • Familiarity with system verification strategy;
  • Familiarity with Verification Control Boards (VCB) meetings;
  • Familiarity with reporting on the whole Verification Control Status;
  • Familiarity with DOORS and generation of the initial and final VCD.

Desired skills:

  • Technical and software knowledge of scientific algorithms and products, test tools and prototypes;
  • Interpersonal, communication and reporting skills;
  • You will be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, able to work calmly and accurately under stress and able to work without supervision.
