Job Description Summary

The Senior Engineer for Thermal Management will be a member of the GE Aerospace Thermal Systems Design organization and will be a technical leader in advancing the state of the art for thermal management, particularly in the context of new commercial engine architectures like the RISE Open Fan and configurations for hydrogen combustion or hybrid-electric propulsion. This role focuses on developing efficient solutions for the Thermal Management System for GE Aerospace’s technology maturation, engine demonstration, and product development efforts. Responsibilities include utilizing thermal system and fluid mechanics analysis tools and established design principles to propose thermal management systems that meet program requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • As part of GE Aerospace’s advanced technology development and engine demonstration efforts like the RISE Open Fan, hydrogen-combustion, and hybrid-electric architectures, propose and assess thermal management solutions to meet business standards, established procedures, and program requirements;
  • Manage resources assigned to the project, prioritize activities to deliver program objectives on time, while meeting cost and quality requirements;
  • Execute and independently guide the definition and analysis of thermal management configurations;
  • Independently perform thermal analysis using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and/or finite element analysis (FEA) tools;
  • Represent the thermal systems design team in the coordination with other technical disciplines, with understanding of engine integration at the system level;
  • Manage and drive research and technology activities targeting next-generation thermal management solutions, including planning of external funding proposals;
  • Lead technical reviews and support design best practices interfacing with the global GE Aerospace engineering team;
  • Participate in problem solving and innovation initiatives;
  • Identify improvement opportunities and apply Lean tools to remove waste.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering with very significant level of industrial experience in the field of thermal management or thermal systems design;
  • Strong understanding of the physics and principles associated with thermal systems and turbomachinery design;
  • Proven track record in delivering on complex programs and ability to work in cross-functional global team in multi-cultural environments;
  • Demonstrated ability to advance the technology state of the art and ability to generate innovative solutions;
  • Fluency in English.

Desired Characteristics

  • Hands-on experience in secondary flows, component cooling, mechanical design, computational fluid dynamics for thermal systems design;
  • Experience in scale and full-scale testing, including test planning, instrumentation, test execution, and data analysis;
  • Self-directed, highly motivated, able to manage work-load across several activities;
  • Quick learner, flexible attitude, exceptional communication skills;
  • Keen listener, proven facilitation and collaboration skills;
