Job Description

Design, develop and test the Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) subsystem of the lunar transfer vehicle as keeping the consistency with the overall spacecraft design. Especially be responsible for performing GNC sensor development including requirements definition, selection, procurement, development and testing, collaboratively working with systems, avionics and AIT (assembly, integration and test) engineers, as well as GNC engineers. This position is based in Tokyo, Japan.

Key Responsibilities 

  1. Collaboratively work on GNC sensor development with systems, avionics and AIT (assembly, integration and test) engineers as well as GNC engineers;
  2. Define GNC sensor requirements, select and manage vendor collaboratively working with SCM (supply chain management) engineers;
  3. Develop GNC sensors by integrating components and designing housing, planning and performing environmental testing (e.g. vibration, thermal, vacuum and radiation);
  4. Conduct field testing of GNC sensors (e.g. Star tracker, IMU, DSS, active range/velocity sensor, camera);
  5. Conduct and support system level testing with Hardware-in-the-loop simulation and FM environment from GNC sensor perspective;
  6. Participate in flight operation as a member of GNC teams. Develop in flight GNC sensor commissioning/calibration plan and support interface design with the ground system from GNC perspective as collaboratively working with the system and operation team;
  7. Collaboratively work with the subcontractor on image processing algorithm and vision-based landing algorithm development from GNC sensor perspective (Camera and LiDAR).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Electrical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent;
  • 3+ years of experience in GNC sensor development of spacecraft;
  • Experience in Sun sensor, Star tracker, IMU and camera operation, encompassing the design of appropriate functional testing, calibration, and verification;
  • Enthusiastic attitude and team player;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Business level English communication skill.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • 5+ years of experience in GNC sensor development of spacecraft;
  • Experience of MATLAB/Simulink, C, Python, Git, Linux;
  • Experience of the 3D CAD and Drawings;
  • Experience in active range/velocity sensor (e.g. Radar, Laser range finder, LiDAR) and camera, encompassing the design of appropriate functional testing, calibration, and verification;
  • Familiarity with spacecraft design and test standards: e.g. NASA-STD, ECSS, JAXA-STD, MIL-STD;
  • Business level Japanese communication skill.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
