The Role

The successful candidate will be a key member of the UK Avionics Team and will be responsible for developing, procuring, and integrating Telecommand/Telemetry & Control (TT&C) and Payload Data Transmission (PDT) subsystems to performance, schedule and cost requirements for ClearSpace's programs.

Key activities will be

  • Performing the analysis to define and specify (dynamic) link budgets, data flow analysis;
  • Defining end-to-end TT&C and Payload Data Transmitter (PDT) chains and performing requirements engineering (analysis, flow-up and down) for on-board hardware;
  • Writing specifications for RF equipment (transponders/transmitters/antennas) and related EGSEs;
  • Following up the procurement and tailoring made by equipment suppliers and subcontractors with emphasis on schedule and budgets;
  • Reviewing both high-level and detailed electronics design and checking compliance to applicable standards. Assessing the correct implementation of encryption and authentication functions;
  • Analysing EMC and RFC constraints and implementing mitigation measures (conducted emissions and susceptibility);
  • Defining validation, verification and test plans;
  • Prepare and execute functional performance, environmental and EMC tests;
  • Supporting subcontractor management for key hardware deliverables;
  • Evaluating risks and defining mitigation strategies;
  • Interfacing with customers for technical matters.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of telecommunications engineering experience in the space industry;
  • Familiarity with the full space program lifecycle, from business development, proposal generation and contract negotiations, all the way through design, development, assembly, test and successful delivery;
  • Familiarity with cutting-edge TT&C/PDT equipment;
  • Experience of RF and electronics design and analysis;
  • Knowledge of authentication and encryption schemes;
  • Comfortable interacting with customers, both institutional (UKSA, ESA) and commercial.

Desired Education

  • (BSc/MSc) Degree in Aerospace, Communication, Electronics, Engineering, Physics or similar.
