The Materials Engineer will be:

This role will be based at Air Products’ office in The Hague, Netherlands and the ability to travel to plant sites within Europe and the UK will be required.

This role will directly support Air Products’ carbon capture and green hydrogen plants, among others, through a combination of materials selection, failure analysis, and material performance research.

This junior technical role will receive support and mentoring from more senior engineers in the US and China for both technical and professional development.

As part of the Chief Engineer’s Office, MET performs risk assessment for the company and interacts with high level directors and managers to assess, communicate, and document risk, in addition to materials selection, failure analysis, and lifetime prediction work.

The Materials Engineer will be required too:

  • Perform Plant support: failure analysis, materials compatibility, repair or replace decisions, and support for Mechanical Integrity;
  • Perform Materials selection for new plants and retrofits;
  • Address gaps in knowledge of materials structure/property/performance relationships through research;
  • This role will include 10-30% travel, including plant visits, conference travel, visits to other Air Products offices, and/or supplier visits;
  • Work with external organizations such as CGA/EIGA and ISO to provide input on industry standards and keep up with industry developments and trends.

Your Profile:

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in metallurgy, materials engineering, or related field;
  • Alternatively, BSc/MSc or PhD with significant year’s’ experience outside of school doing failure analysis and/or materials selection in the chemical process industries and/or energy industry;
  • Experience executing materials performance testing and/or research projects;
  • Experience with cryogenic materials performance and testing is preferred;
  • Experience with oxygen, ammonia, and/or CO2 service is preferred;
  • Experience with weld microstructure-performance relationships would be advantageous;
  • Experience with machinery would be advantageous.
