The successful candidate will work as part of the Global Engineering organization in the EMEA Process Engineering team, responsible for the regional execution and design of Process Gas Plants and Air Separation Plants. The Process Gas plants and related equipment are designed to produce Ammonia, Hydrogen, Carbon Monoxide, Helium and syngas blends.

The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for the process engineering design and support required to support both an in-house design team or an external engineering design company.

Responsibilities:

  • Work leading a team of in-house process engineers for internal design work or work individually in the role of Owner’s Engineer overseeing work of an external engineering company;
  • Review designs developed by an external engineering company or EPC, ensuring that that they meet Air Products requirements for safety, operability and reliability. This may require regular visits to external company offices;
  • Process Flow Diagram (PFD) development;
  • Detailed equipment specifications for major equipment;
  • Duty specifications of controls valves and relief valves;
  • Represent the Process function in P&ID reviews ensuring a safe, operable and reliable design;
  • Participate in the hazard review process and other safety evaluations (SIL and Fault Tree Experience beneficial);
  • Coordinate functional issues involving plant reliability, operability and maintenance;
  • Provide input into the plant design by reviewing the 3D piping model and overall facility Plot Plan;
  • Participate in the DCS (Distributed Control System) staging (SAT, Software Acceptance Test);
  • Conduct Performance tests and troubleshooting efforts at plant facilities;
  • Training for other engineers on the team;
  • International travel to external engineering company offices, customer locations and to plant sites is expected about 15% of the time.

Qualifications/Education:

To be successful as part of the EMEA Process Engineering team, candidates should have the following Education/Skills/Experience:

  • Have a Bachelor or Masters degree (Chemical Engineering preferred);
  • Preferably a Chartered Engineer from relevant Institution;
  • Have significant experience in leading process plant design. Engineering experience in high temperature process gas plants, combustion processes or cryogenic plants is preferred;
  • Have a strong understanding of thermodynamics and be able to adapt knowledge to new applications;
  • Be motivated and have good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Have experience of working as an Owner’s Engineer is beneficial;
  • Have experience of leading a team across variety of projects and managing the work within budgeted hours and to schedule;
  • Have experience of supervising less experienced engineers;
  • Operations support experience, including plant trouble-shooting experience is beneficial;
  • Can make balanced decisions weighing operability, reliability, capital costs and operating costs.
