What to Expect

We are seeking a highly capable and motivated Senior Quality Engineer for the Cell Manufacturing plant at Giga Berlin. As the cell quality expert for your area, you identify and resolve process variance that affects product quality, run structured problem-solving and nonconformance control, and take product and process improvements through the full change-management cycle. Building a reliable quality system and driving the transition from development into serial production are central to the position. You will steer this in close collaboration with Design, Production, Engineering, Supply Chain and others within the plant and across our factories. You will ensure to share best practices, standardize the quality system and to resolve issues as one of the key collaborators within our Global Cell Manufacturing network. In addition, you will train, mentor and guide a team of quality engineers and technicians through the upcoming ramp of your cell production.

What You’ll Do

Act as the cell quality expert in your designated area and across full manufacturing value streams;
Collaborate closely with Product Design, Engineering, Production, Maintenance, and other functions inside and across Tesla plants;
Build a working network across Tesla plants to resolve issues, standardise our procedures, share best practises and constantly improve tesla’s cell business;
Build and maintain the production quality system in line with APQP, including PFD, PFMEA, control plan, MSA, SPC, and PPAP;
Develop inspection standards, test plans, work instructions, and manufacturing process validation plans;
Identify process variance that contributes to product quality and drive containment, disposition, and corrective action with internal and external teams;
Lead and challenge others on structured problem-solving and control of nonconforming product (Lean, Six Sigma, 8D); drive taskforces; and close the most urgent and complex issues at area level;
Track Quality KPIs, prioritize top issues, and drive continuous improvement projects;
Take product, process, and equipment changes through the full change-management process (including PCA) to improve manufacturability and field performance;
Lead cross-functional working groups to validate specifications and define new product and process tolerances;
Support the plant QMS (ISO 9001 / IATF 16949) and act as audit lead when required;
Train others on product, production/operations, and quality processes; support Quality Managers in day-to-day quality work.

What You’ll Bring

A hands-on, results-driven approach, with strong analytical ability, organization, and attention to detail;
Ability to work with little day-to-day instruction and to lead an area as the quality owner;
Ability to train and challenge others, to work with senior contacts internally, at other Tesla plants and at suppliers;
Ability to explain complex problems in a structured way using accurate data;
Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience;
5+ years in quality engineering or a related field, including leading quality assurance work;
Strong knowledge of your production area and adjacent processes, and of how other functions contribute to plant operations;
Working knowledge of manufacturing and quality methods: 8D, DMAIC, Ishikawa, Pareto, hypothesis testing, DoE, process capability, MSA,  SPC, OEE;
Practical experience with quality systems, APQP/PPAP, GD&T, and a range of measurement and inspection methods;
Knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949; experience supporting or leading QMS audits is an advantage;
Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, or equivalent demonstrated problem-solving experience;
Data analysis and visualization skills with tools such as JMP, or Minitab; knowledge of SQL, Python, R, or MATLAB is an advantage;
Ability to accommodate to flexible working hours (especially for our plants and partners in North America);
Full professional proficiency in English; German is a plus.
