About the role:

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Power Systems Engineer to support the design, analysis and integration of electrical systems for a next-generation Small Modular Reactor.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on power systems design across the full electrical scope of the plant, including generator systems, grid interconnection, medium and low voltage distribution, as well as safety-related and emergency power systems.

Your role:

  • Design and integrate electrical systems including Class 1E (safety-related), SC2, and SC3 systems;
  • Perform power system studies using ETAP, including:
    • Load flow analysis;
    • Short circuit calculations;
    • Motor starting studies;
    • Protective relay coordination;
    • Develop key electrical engineering deliverables such as:
    • Load lists;
    • Single-line diagrams;
    • Electrical schematics;
    • Engineering calculations;
    • Prepare technical specifications for major electrical equipment:
    • Power transformers;
    • Switchgear;
    • Diesel generators;
    • UPS systems;
  • Support regulatory compliance and licensing activities (US NRC/Canadian CNSC);
  • Interface with external stakeholders, including utilities, for:
    • Grid interconnection;
    • Protection requirements;
  • Ensure designs comply with US, Canadian, and international (IEC/IEEE) standards and codes;
  • Contribute to the safe and reliable operation of a safety-critical nuclear power system.

Your profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred);
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in power systems engineering within high-reliability industries such as: Nuclear, Power generation, Oil & gas, Military or similar;
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Electrical power systems design;
    • Protection and coordination;
  • Hands-on experience with ETAP or similar power system analysis tools;
  • Proven experience working with:
    • Generator protection systems;
    • Large power transformers;
  • Practical experience configuring or working with protective relays, preferably:
  • SEL (Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories);
  • GE Multilin;
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and standards (IEEE, IEC, NEC, CSA);
  • Ability to work in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment with attention to detail and documentation.
