Associate Production Engineering Manager, Cell Formation

The ideal candidate has a proven track record of building new teams and leading complex, high-volume production teams in areas like cell/battery production, semiconductors, integrated circuits, displays, etc. This role will lead engineers to improve, optimize and develop the high-throughput Cell Assembly manufacturing lines. This is a cross-functional role that requires coordination between many different teams within of Tesla.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead engineering teams to refine and enhance high-throughput manufacturing processes, prioritizing efficiency, quality, and cost targets.
  • Maintain a culture that prioritizes safety and quality through communication, action, and accountability.
  • Partner with operations teams and other stakeholders to resolve bottlenecks, improve line productivity, and ensure alignment with production goals.
  • Use validated production data to evaluate issues, select appropriate methodologies, and implement solutions within established procedures.
  • Allocate personnel and financial resources to meet departmental objectives, balancing competing demands and tight deadlines.
  • Mentor and develop engineering staff, ensuring expertise in process optimization and adherence to Tesla’s high standards.
  • Suggest improvements to company policies and establish procedures that directly impact organizational performance.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a technical discipline (e.g., mechanical engineering, industrial engineering) or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading engineering teams focused on designing and optimizing high-volume manufacturing systems.
  • Experience in leading maintenance teams is a plus.
  • Experience in mass production industries (e.g., battery cell manufacturing, automotive, semiconductors, consumer electronics, energy systems, beverage).
  • Proficiency in analyzing and improving production metrics (efficiency, quality, safety, throughput, costs).
  • Ability to work under pressure, assess dynamic conditions, and prioritize conflicting demands.
  • Operate independently to achieve goals, proposing policy changes and establishing procedures that affect the organization.
  • Develop schedules, budgets, and performance targets while managing risks that could impact short-term objectives.
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal) for cross-functional coordination and mediation. German language skills are a plus.
  • Advanced MS Office fluency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for data analysis and reporting.
  • Candidates are expected to uphold and actively promote sustainability principles in their daily work, operating in line with Tesla Global Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS&S) Policy and EMAS requirements, fostering a culture of continuous environmental improvement.
