Metrology Engineer

We are currently recruiting for a Metrology Engineer to join our team here in Cork. Plans, designs, coordinates, validates, and implements high technology metrology equipment and/or processes for the inspection of IOLs. Provides engineering support to manufacturing on metrology issues. Researches and instigates new projects which lead to metrology improvements - including transferring metrology technology processes from R&D to production. Work with external research groups to explore opportunities for collaborative projects. Must also demonstrate analytical skills in problem solving.

In this role, a typical day would include:

  • Responsible for project management & planning and for liaising with other departments/plants affected by these projects. Also for reporting project status to management and highlighting areas of concern early;
  • Responsible for ensuring all projects are completed to agreed timelines and within budget. Also, that all work adheres to H&S and environmental requirements;
  • Responsible for planning and managing projects to ensure effective utilization of resources and for liaising with R&D and other Alcon facilities to develop and introduce new products and processes;
  • Responsible for exploring opportunities for collaborative projects with external research groups using funding mechanisms such as Enterprise Ireland;
  • Responsible for introducing and validating new equipment and/or complex new process projects from design through completion and in compliance with regulatory requirements;
  • Responsible for initiating and driving cost improvement and LEAN Manufacturing initiatives;
  • Responsible for supporting and improving existing processes through process analysis and the application of engineering principles;
  • Responsible for putting effective CAPAs in place for compliance actions within the agreed timeline.

What You Will Bring to Alcon:

  • Minimum experience: 2 years experience in high volume manufacturing environment with experience of project management and metrology solutions;
  • Preferred experience: Prior experience in or knowledge of optics and optical metrology;
  • 5 years’ experience in medical device manufacturing. Experience to include cross site projects and R&D Liaison. Project management experience. Regulated industry experience;
  • Degree in engineering/Physics with an applied element of optics, optical metrology, and opto-mechanics;
  • Knowledge and experience of optomechanical systems and associated control systems;
  • Knowledge of the requirements of optical design and testing;
  • Knowledge of data analysis by statistical methods (e.g. r&R analysis using Minitab);
  • Experience in Project Management best practice (e.g. PMBOK);
  • Knowledge and/or experience of automated inspection technology;
  • Knowledge of process engineering and equipment, automation specification and GMP validation requirements.
