Mechanical Designer Steam Installation

Mechanical Designer Steam Installation

VeroTech

Antwerp, Belgium

About the role

For this role, you join a multidisciplinary R&D team focused on the development of innovative steam-based solutions for industrial processes. You work closely with project leaders, fellow mechanical engineers, and designers, playing an active role in driving design decisions throughout the full product development cycle.

You collaborate daily with test engineers and technicians in the prototype test lab and maintain regular contact with purchasing, production, service, and design review teams. While you are not the project leader, you are expected to actively contribute to and steer the technical design work with your mechanical expertise.

This position is embedded in an international, innovation-driven environment, where sustainability, performance, and engineering excellence are key.

Key responsibilities

For this position, you are in charge of:

  • Designing mechanical components and complete systems using 3D CAD, and further detailing designs in 2D drawings.
  • Participating in the full product development phase: translating customer and producer requirements into technical specifications, selecting components, and developing robust designs.
  • Defining and validating specifications for critical parts such as gears, bearings, seals, and steam-related components.
  • Following up on prototypes from assembly through testing, working closely with the prototype lab.
  • Acting as a technical interface with suppliers and internal product teams to optimize designs for performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Drafting and maintaining technical documentation, instructions, drawings, and bills of materials in line with applicable standards (ISO, CE, PED, ASME, …).
  • Supporting production and service teams once products are released, by answering technical questions and contributing to quality or performance improvements.

What we're looking for

MUST-haves

  • A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electromechanics.
  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience with steam applications, preferably in industrial installations or processes.
  • Strong mechanical design background, with the ability to actively drive design work within a project team.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor (knowledge of ENOVIA is a plus).
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems and practical engineering applications.
  • Fluent English; Dutch is a strong advantage.

Nice to have

  • Basic knowledge of electrical schematics (EPLAN or similar), especially where electrical control interfaces with mechanical design.
  • Experience working in a prototype or testing environment.
  • Familiarity with controlling machines and system-level integration.
