Job Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer – Body & Exterior is responsible for the development of composite-intensive exterior systems and structures, including body panels, closures, and aerodynamic surfaces.

The role focuses on delivering robust, manufacturable, and high-performance composite designs by integrating requirements from Styling, CAE, Manufacturing, and Quality throughout the full product lifecycle. The position requires strong engineering fundamentals in composite materials, laminate design, and structural behaviour, combined with practical understanding of how components are produced.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop body and exterior components, primarily in composite materials;
• Generate 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings with correct application of GD&T and DfM;
• Define laminate architectures, joint designs, and bonding strategies;
• Apply knowledge of composite behaviour, adhesives, and failure modes;
• Ensure holistic integration across Styling, CAE, Manufacturing, and Quality;
• Support simulation and validation activities with CAE teams;
• Design for manufacturability with focus on prepreg lay-up and manual processes;
• Support prototype builds and validation activities;
• Prepare design releases and documentation;
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar;
• 5+ years experience in mechanical design (automotive/motorsport preferred);
• Strong experience in composite (CFRP) design;
• Understanding of CLT and composite failure modes;
• Knowledge of adhesives and bonding methods;
• Proficiency in CATIA (V6/3DEXPERIENCE preferred);
• Practical knowledge of prepreg lay-up and manufacturing;
• Experience across full product lifecycle.
