Manufacturing Equipment Engineer (Electrical Focus)
Tesla
Tilburg, Netherlands
What to Expect
The Tesla Manufacturing team is seeking a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer with a specialized focus on Electrical Systems. Based at our Tilburg facility, you will be the primary authority for troubleshooting, developing, and optimizing the equipment architecture of our production lines.
Your mission is to ensure the performance and reliability of complex electrical systems. You will lead the design of test and control systems, manage power distribution for production equipment, and drive continuous improvement through advanced automation. This role is a blend of high-level electrical design and hands-on commissioning in a fast-paced environment.
What You’ll Do
- Electrical Design & Compliance: Lead the design and engineering of industrial electrical control panels, ensuring full compliance with CE, the Low Voltage Directive, and EMC Directives;
- Schematic Development: Own the end-to-end electrical lifecycle, from drafting complex multi-page schematics in EPLAN to overseeing the physical cabinet builds and wiring;
- Automation & Controls: Develop and optimize PLC logic, HMI interfaces, and automation integration to improve machine cycle times and data acquisition;
- System Upgrades: Engineer electrical retrofits for existing conveyors, actuators, and automated testers to improve reliability and energy efficiency;
- Vendor Management: Define rigorous electrical and safety hardware standards for third-party equipment vendors to ensure seamless integration into the Tesla ecosystem;
- Safety Engineering: Architect and validate redundant Industrial Safety Systems (SIL/PL rated) to mitigate hazards related to high-voltage battery systems and high-speed motion;
- Root Cause Analysis: Utilize electrical diagnostic tools (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, thermal imaging) alongside data software like Minitab/JMP to solve intermittent hardware failures.
What You’ll Bring
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or Automation Engineering;
- Experience: 3+ years in industrial electrical design, specifically within high-volume manufacturing or custom machine-building;
- Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in EPLAN Electric P8 is essential;
- Deep understanding of NEN 1010/NEN 3140 standards and European Machinery Directives;
- Hands-on experience with Siemens (TIA Portal), or Rockwell PLC environments;
- Knowledge of industrial networking protocols (CAN, EtherCAT, Profinet, Ethernet/IP).
- Hardware Knowledge: Strong grasp of LV/HV components, including DAQ Systems, VFDs, servo drives, sensors, and safety controllers;
- Mindset: A "first-principles" approach to problem-solving and a willingness to be hands-on with equipment on the shop floor.
