Tesla is looking for a Lead Power Systems Engineer to develop in-house models and support our energy storage, solar, and electric charging projects. You will interface with utilities, independent power providers, and system operators in technical power systems discussions, and influence our systems design to facilitate scaling on the grid. You will be responsible for supporting utility-scale projects in the EMEA region. You will provide strategic inputs in AHJ engagements and represent Tesla as a thought leader in the EMEA region. The role is diverse, fast-paced, and spans multiple levels of electrical, controls, firmware design, and grid operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Act as a technical leader for the EMEA power systems team;
  • Influence and shape industry requirements for the benefit of the grid;
  • Work with the product design team to feed power systems requirements into the product specification to influence system architecture;
  • Act as the technical representative for power flow, short circuit, and dynamic modelling discussions with customers and AHJs, showcasing the ability to articulate power systems analyses/results and the interaction of Tesla's technology with the grid;
  • Continue to increase our in-house capability to model Tesla's product in commercial power systems simulation platforms.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience providing technical leadership within a team on power systems projects;
  • Previous experience with working groups and standards creation for power system technical requirements;
  • Expert-level knowledge of at least three power system modelling tools: PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PowerWorld, ETAP, SKM, CYMCAP, or CDEGS;
  • Experience with modelling and simulations of inverter-based generation;
  • Demonstrated experience with performance of interconnection and engineering studies, such as stability, protection coordination, harmonics, insulation coordination, arc flash, and ground grid analyses;
  • Strong working knowledge of control theory and the ability to implement PID control;
  • Degree in electrical engineering with a power systems focus;
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with customers, engineering, business development, and deployment personnel;
  • Direct experience with EMEA utilities and ISOs is a plus;
  • Prior experience with HIL tools (RTDS, Typhoon, OPAL-RT) is preferred;
  • Fluency in one or more official EU languages (apart from English) is a plus.
