Senior EMI/EMC Engineer
Quantum Systems
Gilching, Germany
As EMI/EMC Engineer you will will perform design, analysis and testing tasks for unmanned air vehicle systems down to a subcomponent system level. Furthermore, you will support in finding solutions for real-world problems related to jamming and electronic warfare. You will lead efforts in identifying and mitigating EMI/EMC vulnerabilities, supporting product compliance, and designing reliable hardware for mission-critical applications. You will also support in expanding our testing capability by planning and procuring test equipment according to our needs.
What is your Day to Day Mission:
- Conduct hands-on debugging and mitigation of EMI/EMC issues at the board and system level using lab tools such as spectrum analyzers, LISNs, and near-field probes.
- Analyze and improve system susceptibility performance, ensuring immunity to field strengths of 50 V/m or higher across key frequency ranges.
- Design and implement RF filtering, shielding, and layout practices to enhance resistance to GPS jamming and spoofing.
- Collaborate with RF, digital, and systems engineers to review schematics and PCB layouts for EMC, GPS integrity, and radiation resilience.
- Perform and support lab testing campaigns for emissions, immunity, and GPS jamming resilience using MIL-STD-461, DO-160, or other standards.
- Select, evaluate, and qualify radiation-hardened components, ensuring suitability for TID and SEE environments, especially for aerospace or spaceborne systems.
- Develop and maintain internal design guidelines and checklists for EMC best practices, GPS robustness, and radiation mitigation techniques.
- Work with simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, HFSS, CST) to model EMI paths, coupling mechanisms, or radiation susceptibility.
- Participate in failure analysis and root-cause investigations when GPS lock is lost or EMI-related issues affect system functionality.
- Provide technical input during design reviews and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure the system meets reliability, compliance, and survivability goals.
What you bring to the team:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in EMI/EMC engineering, preferably in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability sectors.
- Proven experience with GPS signal resilience, including anti-jam antenna techniques and RF filtering.
- Hands-on experience with EMI/EMC testing tools and techniques.
- Ability to provide detailed EMI/EMC and EME design guidance.
- Perform testing in accordance with MIL-STD-461C/D/E/F/G, CISPR, FCC, DO-160.
