Telecommunication Engineer
Argotec
San Mauro Torinese, Italy
To support our Company’s growth, we are looking for an enthusiastic Telecommunication Engineer to join our Telecommunication Unit, with a focus on the design and validation of satellite communication systems for SmallSats across Near Earth and Deep Space missions. The ideal candidate has a background in TT&C subsystem design, system architecture and requirements definition and verification, Ground Support Equipment (GSE) development, and is comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders (space agencies, primes).
DUTIES
As a Telecommunication Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end design and validation of satellite communication systems for Telecommand/Telemetry (TT&C) and Payload Data.
The activities will include (but are not limited to):
- Define communication system architecture starting from mission requirements:
- Analyze mission needs and derive subsystem-level requirements, defining TT&C architecture (space and ground segments) and interfaces;
- Execute comprehensive RF link and performance budgets and technology trade-offs;
- Author and maintain technical documentation including Design Description, Interface Control Document, Verification Control Document, Test Plans and Procedures.
- Validation of communication systems and GSE:
- Design, implement, and validate GSE and test environments for TT&C/PDT subsystems;
- Define and execute verification and validation activities, prepare laboratory equipment, and produce test reports;
- Contribute to and/or lead design reviews, ensuring requirement coverage and test traceability.
- Integration and Operations:
- Support AIV/AIT activities through integration, functional/acceptance testing, and troubleshooting up to Phase E (in-orbit operations);
- Coordinate with ground networks (e.g., ESA ESTRACK, NASA DSN) for compatibility testing, integration, and flight operations support.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering or other STEM disciplines;
- At least 1-2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the aerospace or defence sector;
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams;
- Hands-on, proactive, and results-driven approach;
- Analytical mindset and continuous learning attitude;
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCES & SKILLS
- Familiarity with CCSDS and ECSS standards for TT&C, telemetry protocols, and interface;
- Programming skills in MATLAB, C/C++, Python, Linux;
- Solid knowledge of laboratory instruments (Vector signal generators, Vector signal analyzers, Vector network analyzer, Oscilloscopes);
- Experience with SDR and physical layer processing (modulation, filtering, synchronization, FEC such as LDPC/Turbo/Convolutional);
- Ability to solve complex problems, apply critical thinking, and take full ownership of technical deliverables;
- High flexibility and ability to work under tight schedules;
- Curiosity, adaptability, and eagerness to learn.
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
- Direct experience with ESA/ASI/NASA programs and operations with ESTRACK/DSN networks;
- Ability to design testbenches and conduct repeatable laboratory tests activities;
- Hands-on with SDR development kits (e.g. USRP), Gnu Radio, and system-level modelling;
- Experience in AIV/AIT, qualification/acceptance testing of radio subsystems, and campaign planning;
- Version control: Git/Bitbucket;
- Familiarity with Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence).
