RF Power Amplifier Design Engineer

RF Power Amplifier Design Engineer

CERN - European Organization for Nuclear Research

Geneva, Switzerland

What you'll do

You will engage in the development of RF amplifier systems, which power RF resonators for particle beam acceleration. The objective is to replace ageing tube electronics with solid-state technology in line with beam requirements.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead the design of Solid-State Power Amplifiers, including calculations, simulations, component selection, layout definition and PCB design, as well as RF system and component modelling and characterisation through planned measurements.
  • Define manufacturing methods, specifications and acceptance criteria, and provide progress reporting and documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams for prototyping, testing and diagnostics, and oversee the operation, maintenance, repair and upgrade of existing RF equipment.
  • Support beam-based measurements, analyse equipment performance and ensure compliance with all safety procedures.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations and other documentation, contributing to effective knowledge sharing.

Your profile

  • Proficiency in radio-frequency circuit design and testing with specific emphasis on Solid-State Power Amplifiers. Experience with microwave and RF simulation and analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity in circuit design for analog electronics used in power RF systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with microwave and RF amplifier measurements, including component characterisation and model extraction.
  • Initial experience in managing electronic projects from conceptual design to testing, prototyping and manufacturing phases, in-house and in industry.
  • Experience in preparing technical reports and engineering specifications.
  • Master's degree or PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Electronics Engineering, RF and Microwave Electronics or a related field.

Your skills

  • Design, construction and testing of RF power generation components and systems;
  • Design of high-frequency electronics and microwave circuits;
  • Testing and measurement of analog electronic circuits;
  • Knowledge and application of RF techniques.
