As a Project Engineering Manager, you will lead and oversee a diverse team to support engineering and design delivery. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will ensure successful project execution, foster innovation, and maintain high-quality standards. Your responsibilities include managing discipline resources, budgets, and providing technical expertise while facilitating effective communication and project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Ethical Ambassador: Act in a morally, legally, and socially appropriate manner in interactions with team members, the wider organisation, and clients;
- HSSE Leader: Lead by example, apply appropriate standards and methods to minimise accidents, injuries, or environmental impact during design phases and operations;
- Project Execution: Lead projects with varying execution styles, from concept through FEED, detailed design (EPCm), and PMC;
- Team Leadership: Manage and lead a large, multi-discipline engineering team;
- Vision & Direction: Establish vision and direction, influence and align the team to a common purpose, and empower and inspire others to achieve project success. Adapt to changing circumstances and provide clear guidance;
- Performance Management: Manage the performance of the engineering team, resolve conflicts, and motivate and develop individuals to meet project and business demands;
- Communication: Effectively communicate with stakeholders impacted by project delivery, resolve conflicts, and provide technical assurance;
- Decision Making: Identify situations requiring decisions, gather information, assess alternatives, and make informed choices in a timely manner. Adapt communication of decisions to the audience;
- Scope & Contract Management: Handle complex project scope and contract management. Ensure the project team knows and complies with the project scope;
- Project Workflow: Familiar with project work sequences, activities, and deliverables for engineering disciplines at any project phase, with a solid understanding of contracts;
- Schedule & Progress: Take overall ownership of the engineering schedule and progress of each discipline;
- Budget Management: Develop and agree on engineering budgets, control forecast and actual costs, and manage cash flow throughout the project lifecycle. Develop and manage proposals and estimates in accordance with corporate procedures;
- Risk Management: Identify risks and implement mitigations;
- Quality Management: Ensure the project Quality Management System supports deliverables preparation and execution methods;
- Information Management: Understand the practical application of information management, data, software, and IT in support of engineering on a project, including impacts on execution, workshare, and costs. Communicate project information formally to stakeholders;
- Documentation: Generate and authorise key documents, including those directing engineering strategy and implementation;
- Multi-Centre Management: Oversee multi-centre execution, including high-value execution centres;
- Deputise: Ability to deputise for the Project Manager as needed.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering; Chartered Engineer preferred;
- Experience: Extensive experience in engineering leadership, including experience leading discipline engineering teams. Experience is predominantly in home office settings, with some site experience;
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in several of the following areas :- energy transition, hydrogen production, carbon capture, oil & gas, LNG & GTL, refining, petrochemicals, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, utilities, and power;
- Leadership: Proven track record in engineering management and leading multi-discipline teams;
- Commercial Acumen: Understand different approaches for managing lump sum and reimbursable work;
- Technical Expertise: Broad technical knowledge combined with excellent leadership skills;
- Travel: Willingness to travel as needed to support projects.
