Your new role

The Design & Technology Department is responsible for delivering high‑quality basic and detailed engineering in Ammongas. The department supports the company through new technology development, technology improvements, troubleshooting, and optimization of existing plants/technologies.

Within the department, the Process Team focuses on developing, maintaining, and applying advanced modelling tools to simulate and evaluate the performance of Ammongas technologies. This includes Carbon Capture systems, biogas upgrading/polishing, and Liquefaction plants. The team also collects operational data, validates models, and builds fast‑estimation tools to support design choices, cost evaluations, and technology development.

The R&D Engineer plays a key role in maintaining Ammongas’ technical leadership by driving modelling accuracy, supporting innovation, and contributing to technology optimization and development.

Key responsibilities

Process Simulation & Technical Development

  • Perform, maintain, and standardize PROMAX process simulations for carbon capture, biogas upgrading, and LCO₂ systems;
  • Develop and maintain simulation templates, documentation structures, and modelling standards;
  • Prepare mass and heat balances, technical descriptions, and design basis documentation for proposals, detailed engineering, and R&D work;
  • Collect, structure, and analyse plant data for model validation, troubleshooting, and development of fast estimation tools.

Sales & Project Support

  • Contribute to the development of design estimation tools and technology‑selection methodologies;
  • Support the preparation of technical offers, feasibility assessments, and equipment layouts;
  • Participate in meetings and technical discussions with clients and partners, clearly communicating Ammongas’ design principles and performance expectations.

Engineering & Design Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, R&D, and Project teams to implement process improvements and integrate field experience;
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technology development workshops;
  • Assist in revising and updating P&IDs, equipment specifications, design standards, and component lists;
  • Contribute to the standardization and modularization of Ammongas plant designs, including pumps, reboilers, instrumentation, and packed column configurations;
  • Participate in procurement, manufacturing follow‑up, erection, commissioning, and troubleshooting—particularly for first‑of‑a‑kind or complex installations.

Research & Development (R&D)

  • Support ongoing R&D projects, including new solvent testing, column optimization, debottlenecking, and technology scaling;
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements, cost reductions, and product standardization;
  • Drive independent development tasks and take ownership of designated R&D subprojects.

Job prerequisites

Technical Skills

  • A Bachelor’s or master's degree in chemical engineering, Process Engineering, Energy Technology, or a related technical field;
  • Understanding of chemical engineering principles: mass transfer, heat transfer, reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, process control, and system modelling;
  • Experience with chemical process modelling with PROMAX or similar process simulation software;
  • Ability to interpret and develop P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and engineering calculations;
  • Experience or familiarity with: 3D modelling in for example AutoDesk Plant 3D.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail;
  • Proactive, structured, and able to manage tasks independently;
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments;
  • Eagerness to learn, innovate, and contribute to technology development.
