  • The selected candidate will be responsible for analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems in accordance with relevant standards (e.g., ECSS, NASA, MIL-STD);
  • The candidate will apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material science to investigate material issues and provide solutions;
  • The candidate will work in a team environment with other engineering organization performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications and production plans;
  • Develop and qualify manufacturing processes such as bonding, welding, surface treatments, and thermal protection systems for space-grade components;
  • Investigate material-related failures and anomalies. Recommend corrective actions and process improvements.

What you bring with you

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 4 years of related engineering experience;
  • Familiar with electronics PCBA, metallics, plating, adhesive materials and finishing materials. Has experience with fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for assembly of LEO and MEO spacecraft;
  • Experienced with EU and NASA material qualification processes for outgassing in accordance with the ASTM E595 outgassing specification;
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with working on projects related to Low/Mid Earth orbit space vehicle applications;
  • Experience preparing and presenting oral and written reports;
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, and Material Science;
  • Experience with material Obsolescence issues and qualifying materials;
  • Experience with low outgassing materials;
  • Experience in contamination control and cleanroom practices.
