As an Automation Project Engineer you are responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of new production materials, equipment, and technologies before conducting mass production. Completes manufacturing research & development to solve problems related to production cost and quality. Conducts technical feasibility tests to ensure production efficiency. Evaluates project capacity as the basis for production process design and development. Develops and implements standard manufacturing procedures. Evaluates production processes to reduce overall costs. Determines product quality standards and arranges equipment and tools to support production. Selects and communicates with vendors to determine product specifications. Ensures products are delivered within approved timelines and budget. Engages with partner functions (e.g., R&D, commercial, quality).

A typical day to day in this role will include:

  • Perform highly specialized technical tasks and lead research initiatives to optimize project outcomes and solve problems related to production cost and quality
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate new production materials, equipment, and technologies before mass production, including conducting technical feasibility tests to ensure production efficiency
  • Evaluate project capacity as the basis for production process design and development, and develop and implement standard manufacturing procedures
  • Evaluate production processes to reduce overall costs and determine product quality standards
  • Arrange equipment and tools to support production and select and communicate with vendors to determine product specifications and ensure timely delivery within budget
  • Engage with partner functions such as Research and Development, commercial, and quality to drive project performance and technological innovation
  • Make strategic decisions within the scope of assigned tasks
  • Adhere to Good Practice (GxP) regulations by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintaining accurate documentation, ensuring quality control, and completing required training
  • Meet individual job requirements and contribute to the organization's overall compliance, committing to continuous improvement and regulatory compliance Ensure continual Quality System compliance by adherence to established and evolving Alcon requirements.

What you’ll bring to Alcon:

  • Interest in working in a high volume manufacturing environment gaining experience in process engineering, equipment validation and project management. Previous experience in a similar role an advantage but not essential.
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or related discipline 
  • Experience in Automation engineering
  • Thermoforming Process Knowledge desirable.
  • SQL is beneficial
  • High degree of independent judgement and the ability to develop creative solutions is required.
  • Knowledge of packaging and related standards
  • Knowledge of statistical process control and data analysis by statistical methods.
  • Knowledge of process analysis and optimization, and basic industrial engineering.
