Biosesensor Electronics Engineer

Biosesensor Electronics Engineer

ADI - Analog Devices

Limerick, Ireland

The Digital Healthcare (DHC) business unit seeks an experienced Biomedical Electronics Engineer to support the development of a novel biosensor system. This biosensor system leverages electrochemical and optical sensors, microfluidic components, measurement electronics, algorithms, and control software to perform highly accurate and reliable biomarker measurements for diagnostic and therapeutic applications.

The successful candidate will design and test new signal chain solutions for performing electrochemical and optical measurements on novel biosensors. They will work closely with the applications team to provide our customers with proven reference designs for these measurement circuits. This person will use the best of ADI mixed signal semiconductor technology to extract additional information from our biosensors, ultimately enabling higher levels of performance and reliability from our biosensor solutions.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop a deeper understanding of sensor physics and measurement parameters in collaboration with Design Team and System Architect. Develop physical and equivalent circuit models in addition to running practical experiments;
  • Translate knowledge of sensor physics/Electrochemistry to measurement signal chain specifications and requirements;
  • Design and test electrochemical measurement signal chain circuits which extract sensor information with the highest level of performance. Develop knowledge on the most optimal way to electrically interface with our sensors;
  • Collaborate with sensor Design Team to investigate new measurement techniques which provide more information about sensor performance/health;
  • Support design characterization and applications teams with integrating measurement signal chain solutions;
  • Collaborate with Firmware and Algorithm team to develop the software necessary to operate the signal chain and process resulting data;
  • Collaborate with product application engineers across ADI to understand the best products in our portfolio to employ in signal chain design;
  • Support biosensor applications team in generating customer facing reference design documentation.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required:

  • BEng or higher in; Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline with a minimum of 8 years industry experience;
  • Excellent circuit theory knowledge and understanding of both analog and digital circuit design;
  • Experience designing high performance signal chain solutions for analog sensors;
  • Familiarity designing circuits for optical and/or electrochemical sensor measurement;
  • Proficiency with schematic capture tools (e.g. cadence, Pads, Altium etc.);
  • Knowledge of typical PCB layout design rules, and experience reviewing PCB layout files;
  • Basic knowledge of embedded firmware development (Embedded C/C++);
  • Knowledge of a higher-level software language for instrument control (e.g. Python, LabView);
  • Interest in physics with a desire to understand the fundamental operating principles of biosensors;
  • Soldering & basic PCB rework skills;
  • Experience working with a standard electronics lab test/measurement equipment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills coupled with a demonstrated ability to work at a high level of performance both independently and within teams.

Advantageous:

  • Knowledge of IEC60601-1 and ISO13485;
