Senior Engineer, Systems Integration Engineering

ADI - Analog Devices

Cork, Ireland

The Sustainable Energy BU's purpose is to engineer a decarbonized, cleaner, and a more sustainable electrified future. Developing solutions for the digitized grid; renewable energy generation; energy transmission, distribution, and storage; EV charging infrastructure; smart meters; and electrified powertrain, the group supports customers with break-through technology to convert, manage, and store electrical power.

The Role

The Senior Systems Integration Engineer will lead the design and delivery of innovative system solutions to customers in the electric energy ecosystem, from green energy generation and power conversion to energy storage systems to powering electric drive trains. Product types include advanced smart meters, photovoltaic (PV) inverters, EV fast chargers, On-board Chargers, and E-drive systems. The role requires a flexible and highly skilled systems engineer with expertise in electronic system and applications design while possessing strong communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate should relish finding elegant solutions to complex system level challenges.

  • Develop electrical energy systems from concept, through architecture and design to production;
  • Identify and derive requirements from customer needs through to system requirements;
  • Contribute to the architecture based on requirements (appropriate systems modelling and capturing into a requirements management tool) and coordinate it with the customer and internal stakeholders including software, hardware, security, and functional safety;
  • Conduct design reviews with project team;
  • Design, build, and test electric energy products;
  • Work with marketing on product strategy planning and customer engagement.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience developing software for electric energy systems, and have familiarity with hardware systems. Strong candidates will have many of the following experience and qualifications:

  • Minimum BS in Electrical Engineering; MSEE and 5+ years of experience preferred;
  • The candidate is expected to employ systems thinking and have demonstrated excellence in systems design in one or more electric energy industries within the last 3-7 years;
  • Experience in designing software and/or firmware for one or more of the following:
    • high voltage energy systems including 40-200 kW power levels;
    • utility grid systems at transmission, distribution, or final voltages;
    • AC/DC and DC/AC power conversion systems and technologies;
    • renewable energy generation;
    • battery energy storage systems and/or battery management systems.
  • Experience in writing control system software/firmware, and implementing algorithms;
  • Experience writing embedded software for electric energy systems such as Linux, RTOS or bare-metal, at the hardware abstraction level as well as embedded C or Linux level;
  • Experience in functional safety is a plus;
  • Proven experience in system design and requirements capture.

Strong candidates should exhibit or possess the following attributes:

  • Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to understand and clearly articulate technical issues;
  • Demonstrated team player, excellent communication, and leadership skills;
  • Enjoys working in a dynamic environment in fast-growing markets, and openly embraces working with others, including across groups and time zones, and actively seeks to do so;
