As an Electrical + Instrumentation & Control discipline lead in Factory Design and Engineering you will lead these disciplines, guide the related work in the Factory Engineering team and collaborate within the organization by supporting the development of optimized design solutions for current and future design of NV’s factories, ensuring best in class battery manufacturing facilities. You will also support the Northvolt Factory Programs teams to find the most efficient designs & solutions, and be a key interface between the engineering, operations, and HSE teams, playing a crucial part in safeguarding our people, assets, and environment.
Factory Design & Engineering (FD&E) is a core central function within the Industrial landscape at Northvolt, operating from our technical base of the Labs facility in Vasteras. The core mission for FD&E is deliver robust planning from project kick off through Master Planning, Concept (10%) and Basic Design (30%) before handing over to the local project technical teams, whilst holding full accountability to Build and Commissioning of the physical asset.

Key responsibilities
- Developing, optimising and reviewing the Northvolt Electrical + I&C (EIC) design philosophies, guidelines, technical specifications and internal procedures according to the Blueprint 2.0 function;
- Collaboration with the multi-discipline engineering team to generate multidiscipline data-driven design solutions, which enable 3D, 4D and 5D to be generated;
- Responsible for the EIC design software tools and the associated licenses which will improve internal ways of working. Likewise, responsible for how they are used in the projects;
- Responsible for strategic decisions regarding project EIC design and procurement. Support on schedule and cost decisions;
- Defining the EIC scope of work for the Northvolt projects (aka Programs);
- Responsible for approving the EIC designs during Conceptual and Basic Design project phases and reviewing of same if there is no Factory Construction Design team in place;
- Working with the project teams to generate the EIC related supplier framework agreements;
- Approving the deviations from the Basic Design during Detailed Design and Execution project phases;
- Gathering the EIC lessons learned at the project stage gates and updating the relevant documentation accordingly. Deploy information to relevant teams;
- Mentoring and supporting the different Northvolt factory EIC departments.
Skills & Requirements
We believe that you have:
- Bachelors’ Degree or Masters’ in Electrical Engineering or equivalent;
- 10+ years working experience, preferably in industrial projects (such as pharma, data centers, oil & gas, automotive), especially in the EIC scope;
- Experience with design and/or commissioning in the field of HV, MV, LV and associated control and protection system;
- Excellent English written and oral skills;
- Strong experience with both 3D and 2D design tools such as REVIT or AUTOCAD.
Bonus points for:
- Proficient in MS Suite;
- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD…) for electrical and control systems is preferred but not required;
- Fluency in other languages (Swedish, German);
- Experience in multi-cultural environments;
- Ability to work under high pressure and tight deadlines.
