We have an exciting opportunity for a Sr Advanced Hardware Engineer to join our Honeywell team in Trieste.

This role focuses on cost reduction of existing mass volume products across all Honeywell HBT portfolio, with a specific focus on FIRE products. Examples of the products include, but are not limited to: electronic thermostats, building controllers, control panels, fire detectors, etc. This role includes identification of product cost savings opportunities through alternate supplier qualification, product design standardization, and factory transfers. The ideal candidate will lead projects that implement these changes, in cooperation with the design teams and ISC (integrated supply chain), prepare test plans, perform qualification testing, prepare test reports, and implement the change in the mass production factory with sustained or improved quality. The ideal candidate is skilled at multitasking, has good communication skills (both written & verbally), and is technically sound. Additionally, they should be accustomed to working in a cross-functional and global work environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Participate in Cost Reduction ideas generation including Kaizen and Lean Events
  • Identify opportunities to reduce BOM and labor cost of existing products, including BOM scrubbing and Should Cost Analysis
  • Perform and support feasibility review of new ideas assigned
  • Prepare Total cost model and obtain approval – collecting project data such as cost of engineering services, capital investment, other services, projects length, etc. and define the Return on Investment
  • Conduct Feasibility Reviews on new ideas and evaluate projects from ideation to implementation
  • Prepare Test Plans for the project to make sure the alternative component will satisfy all requirements and final product performance meets the specification.
  • Perform Component and Product level Qualification – Provide hardware description, develop test instructions, and create user guides and manuals
  • Conduct redesign activities of an existing product to gain more domain knowledge about Fire Business and understand how to implement the FIRE standards requirements with help of both regulatory team and more experienced R&D colleagues
  • Perform a key role in Obsolescence / Shortage issues
  • Provide Project Management Support for assigned projects and regular status reports to Leadership
  • Specification, design, development, and debug of microcontroller-based systems, including digital, analog, power regulator circuits.
  • Track record of the design and test (developer test, functional test, automated test, climatic test) using HON specific tools (JIRA, JAMA, etc.).
  • Design for Manufacturing and Testability, design for EMC and Safety.
  • Select components and deal with appropriate component selection tools (Preferred Parts List, Preferred Suppliers List, etc.).
  • Build and test prototypes, identify issues, and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Develop test plans and strategies, specify instrumentation, write test procedures, and analyze test results.
  • Perform electronic designs starting from existing architecture for cost optimization (Value Engineering, Component Engineering).

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Master’s Degree is a plus (although not required)
  • At least 10+ years of experience in the Component Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Hardware/Electronic design or Electronic Test Engineering
  • Knowledge of Value Analysis/Value Engineering principles and techniques
  • Knowledge in Electronics (digital and analog)
  • Exposure to Software Knowledge is a plus
  • Experience working with Suppliers and cross-functional teams such as Manufacturing, Design Engineers, Regulatory, etc.
  • Digital and analog electronics design, microcontrollers, AC/DC, DC/DC power supplies, sensing technologies.
  • Familiarity with electronic and electromechanical components.
  • Recent hands-on experience in board design, debug, use of lab test equipment including oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc.
  • Experience with CAD PCB design systems
  • Experience with CAD tools, ECAD Tools, and Electrical Simulation Tools
  • Experience with UL/CSA/CE standards, statistical methods and tools, MS Office
  • Experience in design for EMC is a plus.
  • Experience managing projects; Project Management and Communication skills
  • Very good written and spoken English, very good communication and negotiation skills, work in the international team, experience multitasking and prioritizing workload.
