Purpose of the Job:

This role sits within the Systems Engineering Department in the Thermal Systems Team. The Systems Engineering Department supports core technology development, demonstrates technology at system level, develops and exploits system IP and jointly develops product systems for commercialisation with our partners.

The Thermal Systems Team focus on supporting internal and external customers in designing many aspects of a fuel cell system, ranging from the component level to a complete system design. A mixture of experimental and predictive tools are used to support these activities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead a system development team from concept creation through to detailed design and testing of first of a kind systems;
  • Working with global partners to understand key drivers, requirements and specifications for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Systems and Solid Oxide Electrolyser Systems. Be the technical representative of Ceres and coordinate the project team;
  • Creation of system architectures to meet customer product requirements;
  • Lead issue resolution and documentation activities;
  • Work with designers and suppliers acting as a technical contact;
  • Identify and communicate project risk with mitigation actions;
  • Leading and supporting verification and validation programs including test planning, execution and data analysis;
  • Writing specifications, test plans, reports and presenting work to internal and external customers;
  • Awareness of IP space, creating and supporting new IP generation;
  • Inter department working;
  • Problem identification and independent working to present solutions.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

  • BSc/MSc or BEng/MEng in Engineering discipline or similar;
  • Awareness chemical reaction knowledge and understanding;
  • Fundamental thermo-fluids knowledge and understanding;
  • Creative problem solving;
  • Issue resolution;
  • Knowledge of balance of plant, heat exchanges, reformers, blowers, pumps etc.;
  • Awareness of control complexities, in particular the impact on system design;
  • Experience in developing designs, testing, verification and validation;
  • Interpretation of test results, with understanding of measurement techniques, data acquisition and analysis;
  • Relevant experience in industry or during PhD;
  • Experience working with SOEC and SOFC desirable;
  • Use of Matlab.
