THE ROLE

At Seaborg Technologies we are looking for a Deputy Chief Engineer with excellent leadership skills and a deep understanding of and experience with the design of nuclear power plants and nuclear SSCs. Ideally, you have experience with molten salt reactors or you have a strong interest in broadening your knowledge within that area. You will be part of our Engineering team and work alongside our Chief Engineer.

As Deputy Chief Engineer you will play a key role in driving the design of our compact molten salt reactor (CMSR) from concept verification to vendor design review. Furthermore, you will lead a highly motivated multidisciplinary project team of specialists with different technical and cultural backgrounds. We are looking for someone with proven experience in nuclear reactor design, safety, licensing and managing complex nuclear engineering matters.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direction to technical leads and project teams to define, coordinate, prioritize and execute the CMSR development activities;
  • Lead and coordinate CMSR development, design, and integration activities from feasibility to detailed design and vendor design reviews to meet the programme objectives;
  • Responsible for achieving the CMSR maturity targets at each development milestone;
  • Support the definition and validation of top-level requirements for the programme;
  • Lead CMSR architecture and design solution trade-offs to meet product requirements;
  • Ensure proper management of interdependencies and of functional and physical interfaces;
  • Ensure overall CMSR integration in accordance with requirements and needs, considering the complete product life cycle;
  • Validate means of compliance demonstration for safety and licensing;
  • Review and approve technical deliverables;
  • Support Seaborg in technical discussions with shipyards, customers, vendors, and regulatory authorities;
  • Support the development of the technology strategy;
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, external ABS standards, IAEA safety fundamentals, requirements, and guides.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • Master’s degree or PhD in nuclear or job relevant diploma with experience in nuclear industry;
  • Min. 10 years’ experience in the nuclear industry;
  • Preferably experience from conceptual/feasibility design to detailed design and commissioning;
  • Experience with overall plant development and SSCs design, nuclear safety, and technical leadership of nuclear projects;
  • Experience with nuclear quality and assurance management processes;
  • Excellent understanding of the underlying objectives and principles of nuclear safety;
  • Solid experience with programme and project management;
  • Knowledge and understanding of technologies relevant to GenIV and molten salt reactors is an advantage but not a prerequisite.
