Airbus Defence and Space are looking for a Mechanisms Engineer to join our Mechanisms Department on our Stevenage site. You will be joining a team of approx. 10 professionals who enjoy sharing knowledge and bringing ideas to the table, you will directly contribute to the delivery of mechanisms for Telecoms and Earth Science/Observation missions, for the whole life cycle of the satellites and spacecraft.
We are looking for people with backgrounds in Aerospace, electrical/electronics, medical, trains, automotive, pharmaceutical or other process driven technical industries. You need to have a strong practical understanding of complex mechanisms design, you will be required to take responsibility for achieving and reporting the technical compliance of product over the full cycle of specification, procurement, build, test and delivery, also if necessary to engineer the completion of design improvements and accepted Customer modifications.
As a Mechanisms Engineer you will be working alongside multidisciplinary teams (thermal, stress, manufacturing, assembly and test to name a few) and gaining an in-depth understanding of motors, gearboxes, position sensors, bearings, materials, lubrication and tribology and as well to apply and enhance awareness of mechanical and thermal design and analyses, plus methods of functional and environmental test.
This role can progress into the following career paths: Project Management, Team Lead and Principal Engineer.
This role comes with some national/international travel.
Key Accountabilities
- Maintain (internal and external) Customer satisfaction understanding their technical expectations and needs;
- The review, acceptance and accurate flow down of technical requirements with stakeholder buy-in;
- Assure accurate definition of process and procedure in hardware construction and test;
- Consistently provide technical oversight to the operations of procurement, build, test and delivery;
- Delivery of hardware to well quantified and accepted standards of technical compliance and performance;
- Define immediate corrective and future avoidance action plans to enhance product technical quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Accept and deliver in accordance with project lead expectations delegated work packages;
- Develop, maintain and apply a detailed working knowledge of complex mechanism design;
- Develop, maintain and apply a detailed understanding of mechanism verification and validation;
- Secure design for manufacture and test in proposed technical solution, processes or procedures;
- Perform detailed mechanisms related analyses and trade-offs, and preparation of reports;
- Preparation and presentation of solution substantiation, analysis, test reports and procedures;
- Active input to lessons learned, risk and opportunity management;
- To engage with and utilise experts, specialists, centres of competence and leadership support;
- Take a disciplined and methodical approach to existing and new activities.
To be successful for this role, you need the following skills and experience
- Forward thinking to influence product technology improvement plans and road maps;
- Ability to balance between technical research and the commercial need to conclude and proceed;
- Strong practical understanding of complex mechanisms design and construction;
- Strong communication skills as you will be communicating with different customers and departments;
- Experience with complex mechanisms in a highly regulated or process orientated environment.
