Your mission:

The rotorcraft department of the DLR Institute for Flight Systems in Braunschweig deals with simulation of the flight- and aeromechanics, the stability and control, and systems technology of rotorcraft in general.

The department has around 50 employees, operates its own test stands and uses DLR's two flying test vehicles EC 135 FHS and BO 105 for its research. The intensive cooperation with other DLR institutes at various locations as well as with national and international partners from industry and research forms an important cornerstone for the successful scientific work of the department.

As head of the “Flight Dynamics/Handling Qualities” group in the rotorcraft department, you have the following tasks:

management of the "Flight Dynamics/Handling Qualities" group
research in flight dynamics and handling qualities of rotorcraft
planning of the resources of the group
identification of new research areas and project ideas relevant to the department through intensive exchange within the international community, through literature research and through interdisciplinary cooperation
assist acquisitions
guidance, mentoring and further development of the group's employees as well as doctoral students and visiting scientists
participation in specialist committees inside and outside DLR

You work independently and coordinate strategic decisions within the department. We give you the freedom and opportunity to pursue your own ideas and advance new research topics.

Your qualifications:

completed scientific university degree in aerospace engineering or similar (diploma/master)
proven ability to work scientifically, e.g. through a doctorate and/or a reasonable number of scientific publications
knowledge in the fields of simulation, flight mechanics, handling qualities and system evaluation of rotorcraft
professional and project experience in applied research
evidence of leadership and management skills (e.g. through experience in team leadership, raising third-party funds, supervising theses and/or providing guidance on scientific work)
experience in the acquisition of national and international research and industrial projects
excellent problem-solving skills, initiative and a high sense of responsibility
enjoy working in a scientific environment
high willingness to familiarize yourself with new areas of application and technologies
knowledge of funding opportunities in the German science system desirable
experience in networking and coordinating cooperation with national and international partners desirable
experience in simulation and flight test campaigns with rotorcraft desirable
very good knowledge of spoken and written German and English
willingness to travel (national/international)
