We are looking for a Wind Tunnel Software Developer in C++ to join Airbus in Filton, Bristol. You will join the Wind Tunnel Technology Development Department and report in to the Head of the team.

Do you love developing software and have a proven track record in this field? Do you also like the idea of using this knowledge in the exciting world of aerospace? If so, this role working in Airbus' wind tunnel test facility could be for you.

This unique facility conducts wind tunnel tests for both Airbus and External companies. We test every aircraft developed in Filton from Concorde through to the latest A350 XWB. If successful, you would join our high performing team in testing and developing software to help create the aircraft of the future.

We are looking for someone who can challenge the team and to influence and lead the development of our next generation software architecture.

Tasks & Accountabilities:

  • Use C++ to programme our current Wind Tunnel Operational Software for each test, including maintenance, enhancement and future proofing;
  • Develop the concept, architecture and final solution for our future operational software;
  • Work with an international team to influence and refine test requirements;
  • Carry out advanced data analytics and find bespoke solutions for data acquisition;
  • Network LAN PC's to control wind tunnel and models;
  • Develop and support digital video systems;
  • Carry out data validation procedures and protocols;
  • Assist in the preparation of models to be tested in the wind tunnel.

This role will require some travel within Europe and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Skills & Experience:

  • A strong background of programming in C++ or experience with a similar high level language;
  • Experience in and ability to understand, modify and debug existing source code;
  • Knowledge of XML, SQL and UNIX scripts;
  • Knowledge of TCIP, UDP and RS232 communications;
  • Data analytical methods;
  • Familiarisation with aerodynamic and wind tunnel terminology is desirable but not essential;
  • Team player and effective communicator - able to interact well with a multi-disciplinary team of non-software developers.
