Job Description Summary

Role Summary/Purpose:

We are looking for Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer to join our global FACTS (NPI) team.

In this position, you will mainly be doing research and development around SVC and STATCOM solutions and you will be reporting to global FACTS NPI Manager.

Key tasks:

Your main task is to research and develop optimized interconnection of energy storage system to STATCOM application. Target is to create innovative compensator configurations including energy storage which allows the compensator to meet more demanding customer requirements.

In this very versatile role, you have possibility to become recognized expert in the field of power electronics and electric storages. Your areas of expertise will include:

  • Integration of energy storage to the STATCOM solution
  • Energy storages (supercapacitors and batteries)
  • Power electronic converters and their components
  • High voltage/current testing
  • FACTS devices and especially power-electronic based FACTS

In this role, you will be focusing on the product development as well as future products and technologies. Therefore, you will have the possibility see larger technology trends in the field of power electronics and energy storage usage. Due to the innovative nature of the role, you are expected to contribute on patents and scientific publications. This role gives you real opportunity to work for more sustainable and green future power system.

The research and development work will comply with the good design practices starting from rigour specification definition to implementation, validation, and documentation. Although you are joining to the local NPI team, you will have close collaboration with the local Engineering teams in Finland as well as HVDC NPI team located in Stafford, UK.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Rigour execution of NPI projects;
  • Specification, implementation, validation and documentation of R&D work;
  • Research and development in the field of power electronics and energy storage devices;
  • Support equipment sourcing (technical inputs, equipment evaluation);
  • Support technical Tendering;
  • Create innovative solutions;
  • Problem solving and root-cause analysis;
  • Educate stakeholders;
  • Taking responsibility from own work.

Required Qualifications

  • MSc (or higher) degree in Power Electronics Engineering or equivalent;
  • Specialized knowledge in energy storages (supercapacitors, batteries);
  • Specialized knowledge in power electronics and their components;
  • Special knowledge in electronics and/or electricity transmission systems can be considered as benefit without being mandatory;
  • Integration of energy storage to power electronic converter;
  • Experience from laboratory tests;
  • Experience on high voltage/current testing and safety aspects related to those tests;
  • Ability to make current stress, energy content and life-time calculations;
  • Fluent written and oral skills in English;
  • Strong prioritizing and time management skills.
