What will you do as a Power Electronics Test Engineer at Lightyear?

Verify, validate and make sure all Power Controls as well as Energy Management systems work as designed and help improve their design at the same time. And this in a quick and agile manner: why wait if you can fix it yourself?

So, what are your tasks & responsibilities you ask? Have a look at the bullets below. This will hopefully give you an idea:

  • Work with various system engineering teams (inverters, on-board charger, HV/LV converter, solar converter, BMS, ...) to break down and review/approve system (test) requirements and create test cases and test setups.
  • Plan, prepare, configure and execute energy management and power electronics control systems design verification and product validation at internal and external test facilities. Together with your system and test team colleagues.
  • Perform functional and non-functional power control system tests on inverters, converters, battery assemblies, both HV and LV.
  • Report out, discuss and solve bugs, issues and improvements with the system owners and/or (function) integration engineers. Preferably while testing to get a rapid response and continuous improvement way-of-working.
  • Create technical plans to update the existing test set ups for these systems to run more accurately, safe, automated and flexible. Provide input for Power HIL and Automated Dyno test set ups.
  • Based upon your knowledge, experience and embedding in the system team, support calibration and integration of subsystems and systems.

What do we expect from you as a Power Electronics Test Engineer?

In order to succeed in the role as a Test Engineer proactivity, professionalism, communication and adaptability is crucial. We are looking for someone with an ambitious attitude who learns from the past. Of course, problem solving and debugging skills are your expertise. Furthermore, you are our dream candidate if:

  • Bachelor or Master in electrical/automotive or mechatronics engineering
  • 5 years of experience in an automotive EV testing or
  • development company
  • In-depth knowledge of parts of low and high voltage power circuit design, sensors and actuators as well as ECU communication experience.
  • Knowledge of EMC standards and design is a big bonus.
  • Electric vehicle systems testing and integration hands-on
  • Matlab/Simulink
  • Vector and PEAK can logger or similar for network communication
  • Basic Python/C++ programming skills
  • Fluent in English, Dutch proficiency is considered a plus
