Job mission

As Whirlpool, we are looking for a Senior Engineer for our Built In Cooking platform team. Working with us you will be responsible for the mechanical structures, aesthetics and thermal subsystems of our Built In Ovens and Cooktops. You will work with global cross functional teams during various phases of projects like concept, design and product ones. Your daily tasks will include development, execution, verification and validation activities using various technologies such as structural mechanics, gas combustion, chemical reactions, gas propulsion, gas valves/pipes/burners design.

Your task in the role will include

  • Drive New Product Development projects for the Built in Cooking business with a focus on structural and aesthetics components and physics understanding (structural load, thermodynamics, air flow)
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously and drive them to implementation using the project management tools by closely working with design, product approval, manufacturing and procurement teams.
  • Concept development, design creation, concept evaluation & selection, verification & validation
  • Fine-tuning of concepts (material selection, Design for Safety/Manufacturing/Assembly)
  • Develop and capture knowledge required to deliver subsystem level excellence through Design Guides, Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA),Requirements Management, Tolerance Stack Ups, and other documents
  • Drive design using simple Six Sigma or OPEX - Operational Excellence Tools (Critical Thinking, Thought/Product/Process Map, DOE’s (Design Of Experiment) , COV (Component of Variation), apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) stack up, and perform drawing reviews.
  • Understanding and reviewing simulation reports (structural and thermal) and incorporating recommendations into design.
  • Work with procurement and suppliers to coordinate developing the tools
  • Releasing the parts and assemblies within the PLM (Product Life Cycle Management) tool.
  • Support intellectual property creation: initiating and following-up on patent analysis and identifying new ideas for patents
  • Support roadmaps and strategy plans around specific product modules and attributes

Background and experience

  • Bachelor/Master degree in Mechanical, Energy Engineering
  • 4+ years of experience in the same or very similar role
  • Experience in component/product development with 3D CAD modeling (Creo/Parametric preferred)
  • Experience in component/product development lifecycle management
  • Drawing experience and GD&T (Geometry Dimensioning & Tolerancing) application (tolerance definition and analysis)
  • Knowledge of DFMEA, Requirements management, 6 SIGMA tools
  • Good planning, communication and concept development skills
  • Experience working in diverse/multicultural environment with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work under time pressure
  • Resilience, multidisciplinary approach
  • Good communication skills in written and spoken English is a must
  • Italian language is nice to have
  • Knowledge in simulation analysis (Computational Fluid Dynamics)
  • Gas valves, pipes, burners design is an advantage
