The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of manufacturing engineers who are dedicated to acquiring, installing, qualifying, and supporting the equipment necessary to produce high volume automotive electronics products. Ensures that the manufacturing engineering team and other manufacturing departments work together cohesively and are aligned to implement and maintain key company objectives. Leads and develops the engineering team, confronts and solves performance/operational issues to improve development efficiency. Oversees a robust project management process and delivery timelines to keep projects on schedule and on budget. Typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. Provide input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments and design centers globally.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and ensure the accuracy of all manufacturing engineering activities.
  • Identify, develop, and deploy new manufacturing methods (or refine existing) to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build schedule.
  • Ensure discipline related technical processes, procedures, and best practices are defined, documented, and followed in daily engineering activities.
  • Coordinate team communications to ensure clear understanding of performance expectations and emerging issues.
  • Ensure realistic project plans are developed and successfully executed within approved budget, scope, and quality constraints.
  • Maintain departmental day-to-day manufacturing engineering activities; monitors KPI’s and prioritizes assignments, workflow and scheduling of those activities.
  • Provides manufacturing operational support.
  • Supervises the modification of production processes, and the assessment of manufacturing abilities.
  • Apply robust, consistent, and reliable engineering fundamentals and processes to ensure the highest quality of manufacturing engineering.
  • Work closely with each direct report to develop goals, career paths, and ensure professional development.
  • Involved in all recruiting efforts for the team.
  • Ensures all manufacturing instructions and procedures for new and existing products are accurate and complete.
  • Lead PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test.
  • Establishes and takes ownership of departmental master plan.
  • Ensures departmental adherence to corporate processes, procedures, and recommends improvements when needed.
  • Works closely with the Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance Managers.
  • Resolves problems by evaluating solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
  • Confers with management, and production to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
  • Promoting best practices with root cause analyses.

Financial

  • Ensure departmental and project compliance with agreed budgets and schedules.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Project Management methodology and associated project tracking
  • Identify training, capital, and expense needs for assigned disciplines.
  • Support the generation and monitoring of the Engineering Department’s annual budget.

Personnel Management

  • Manage employee performance:
  • Coach employees and provide feedback with respect to work products produced and adherence to process.
  • Conduct Performance Reviews and recommend salary increases, promotions, and recognitions.
  • Coach on processes, procedures, and engineering skills with new hires and in developmental areas with others, as appropriate.
