Job Description:

DTN – Weather Systems seeks a Software Development Engineer in our Culemborg, Netherlands location within our Software Development team. This position plays a key role in building innovative software to deliver mission critical weather information to aeronautical and meteorological clients around the world including airports and national meteorological services.

Our product portfolio includes a market leading meteorological data acquisition, processing, and display software application called MetConsole©. As Software Development Engineer, you will be responsible for the implementation of software of the MetConsole© Aviation Weather Suite of products. DTN Weather Systems provides turnkey products to the aeronautical meteorology and meteorological and air quality network management markets. The business has a leading European position and is growing globally.

Responsibilities:

  • Development of new, high performance, real-time code for MetConsole;
  • Implement customer requirements in MetConsole systems for new projects;
  • Maintenance of MetConsole systems that are already deployed and operational;
  • Collaborate with Product Managers on the evolution of the MetConsole product suite;
  • Contribute to the optimization and continuous improvement of the software development process;
  • Interface with global development teams on software development initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Minimal a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent required; additional training, education, or certifications are a plus;
  • Excellent knowledge of programming in C++;
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience with the Microsoft Windows operating environment, including Windows, 10/7/XP/2012..2018 Server and clients;
  • Thorough knowledge of development tools for Microsoft Visual C++;
  • Experience with application software including Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Office;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience full lifecycle development within an organization focused on developing customer-facing solutions;
  • Experience with the Agile Development is necessary;
  • Excellent English speaking and writing skill is required, and a second language (e.g. Dutch or Spanish) is a plus;
  • Occasional travel outside of the Netherlands. The position is based at our Culemborg, Netherlands office. Candidate is preferably living in the Utrecht area because of the work-travel distance.

Desirables:

  • Application development and object oriented design experience;
  • Distributed and multi-threaded application experience;
  • Knowledge of automated build and deployment environment;
  • Experience with various object oriented programming languages, i.e. Python;
  • Weather/meteorological, aviation knowledge;
  • Agile development methodology, Scrum/Kanban knowledge is preferred;
  • Familiarity and knowledge of web services is a pre;
  • Familiarity and knowledge of a wide range of database technologies is a pre;
  • Familiarity and knowledge of networking.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Team player;
  • Ability to communicate ideas, alternatives, and solutions;
  • Travel expectation – Less than 20% - occasionally international travelling.
