Role Summary:

The Director has the responsibility to globally lead Equipment Engineering area in LM. This covers development projects as well as operational, maintenance and support tasks for manufacturing equipment. Focus for this department is on developing and providing safe solutions for the many manufacturing and processing operations where equipment is used to perform or assist operations. The position reports to the Senior Director, Technology Development & Manufacturing.

Essential Responsibilities:

AS Director, Equipment Engineering, you will be the main point of contact for internal customers, suppliers, SOP and relevant LM and GE departments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Align with and refine the global strategy for global equipment, ensuring and securing LM’s long term growth and manufacturing capability. The strategy supports Engineering on new projects, and with Global Operations and plants for the ongoing operations of operational equipment assets;
  • Develop empower your team; provide leadership and direction to a global team, including the strategy and goals to meet your own targets;
  • Lead, monitor and execute programs, projects and KPIs to ensure delivery according to plans and commitments including communication across global functions;
  • Establish, maintain and execute technology roadmaps agreed with Sales, Engineering, Operations and SOP;
  • Owner of project manuals, design specifications and standards related to Manufacturing Equipment and Transport Logistics. A major deliverable is to establish and implement handbooks including evaluations and feedback loops to design;
  • Drive a culture of safety and integrity and lead by example;
  • Drive innovation, automation and digitalization to be ahead of customer requirements in a feasible and competitive way;
  • Drive a collaborative, cross-functional partnership with internal customers, suppliers and relevant LM and GE functions in relation to projects, operational tasks and support.


  • A Degree in a relevant field to the development and implementation of technical equipment and engineering solutions for manufacturing or equivalent knowledge or experience;
  • Major experience from technical functions and management of managers, ideally with teams of engineers and technical resources located in multiple regions;
  • Major experience in execution of development programs and projects in a manufacturing context;
  • Capable to understand, manage and challenge costs and budgets, including the essential elements of contracting for major industrial equipment and global service agreements and essential Financial management (business cases, budget, cash flows etc.);
  • A strong communicator, able to remain focused on delivery and execution;
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with technology development and manufacturing technologies like robotics/automation and design for manufacturing;
  • Strong business understanding and a holistic view;
  • International experience and cultural awareness covering Americas, Europe, India and China;
  • Strong English language skill (verbal and writing).

Desired Characteristics:

  • A business-related further education certificate (such as MBA) or similar or equivalent knowledge or experience;
  • Project management skills and proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work through ambiguity to deliver results;
  • Understanding customer needs, marketplace dynamics, industry trends and considering the external impact of business activities and decisions on the external environment;
  • Demonstrated leadership to successfully motivate and drive accountability for global teams through employee involvement, safety and teamwork in a global organization;
  • Understanding of transport requirements and solutions, including procedures and duties to import of equipment;
  • Strong and inclusive communicator, experience communicating to a diverse audience;
  • Knowledge of composite manufacturing, wind turbine blade manufacturing or similar an advantage.
