This role provides leadership for the Quality, Railway Safey and Operational Support functions within the U.K and Ireland. Based in our London Offices at High Holborn, it has a matrix structure, reporting to both the County Managing Director and the EHS & Quality Director (Europe), based in Paris.

The role is responsible for the delivery of critcal services to the business and will be expected to continuously improve the profile and understanding of engineering, quality, cyber and safety assurance within the company. This will include ensuring that relevant processes, standards and tools are applied consistently throughout UK&I; the Integrated Management System is developed and maintained; the validity of all internal and external Quality certifications is managed and maintained; and that the performance of all departmental activities is monitored and reported.

Naturally we would expect the postholder to drive reductions in both the cost of non-quality and those to obtain quality and promote continuous improvement; and deliver efficiencies through continuous improvement in Industrialisation, APSYS, PMO and departmental initiatives. Additonally there is an expectation that you would also

  • Develop a companywide culture of right first time through behavioural and process improvements;
  • Increase customer satisfaction and foster a customer-centric and safety conscious approach throughout the business;
  • Enhance external network links and relationships to improve Alstom’s credibility and customer reputation in the areas of quality, safety and operational performance;
  • Ensure the effective support of tenders and projects with respect to operational support function requirements;
  • Develop UK&I Cyber-security & Innovations capability.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, the successful candidate will also have an engineering background (mechanical or electrical) and comprehensive knowledge of the railway industry. They will be able to represent Alstom professionally at senior management level internally, within the client organisation and at other industry/regulatory bodies and events. They will also have a track record of developing motivated and high performing teams, cost management and effective continuous improvement initiatives. Ultimately the postholder will have evidenced their credibility to lead, develop and deliver a visible and continuously improving engineering, quality, cyber and safety assurance functions within the company.
