At Deventer in the Netherlands we operate a number of research laboratories that are integral to our Specialty Chemicals business area as it develops new products and applications. The Technical Services (TS) Department at Deventer is key to this process, providing flexible yet structured service delivery to a wide variety of research customers.
Within this context, your mission in this role is to manage TS as it undergoes an important restructuring. As such, this is a role for an experienced change and asset manager who can operate in a rapidly evolving environment, establish priorities, and assure high quality technical services within the agreed time and budget. It also requires the service-to-research technical knowledge necessary to think with R&D employees and researchers.

The role and its responsibilities
Based at the Deventer site you define, plan, manage and coordinate TS activities to ensure safe execution and delivery within time, budget and quality. This is with particular regard to the new functions and processes related to restructuring plans that have already been developed.
Thus you deliver specialist technical services essential to the development and design of non-standard and innovative chemicals equipment systems. You also warrant and deliver policies, procedures and operational services, predominantly through the outsourcing of non-core activities.
Further, you warrant and define asset and maintenance concepts fit for use in the specific RDI environment. This includes the planning, coordination, preparation and execution of maintenance via a Continuous Improvement approach. You also set up and provide a proper operational coordination of the delivery of energy and utilities in line with AkzoNobel standards and strategies.
In addition you implement an up to date SAP management system for transparent reporting, along with an account management system suitable for a complex RDI organization.
At all times you adhere to AkzoNobel policies, guidelines and processes, as well as to local and European rules and regulations (e.g. BRZO/Seveso). You also participate in and execute value-improving platforms and knowledge sharing, the objective being to stimulate Continuous Improvement in an open atmosphere.
As a committed people manager and leader you promote the coaching and development of your staff.
To apply for this position you must possess the following attributes:
- Bachelor's degree in a mechanical, process technology, chemical engineering or other applicable engineering discipline;
- At least 10 years of experience in a technical environment (technical services), including some 5 years in a managerial role, with experience in a research environment a strong advantage;
- Experience of setting up and planning asset and maintenance concepts using systems such as SAP PM etc.;
- Experience of developing contracts for outsourcing and SLAs;
- Demonstrable safety leadership and Continuous Improvement skills;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills including fluent written and spoken English and Dutch.
